Adeleke’s campaign council alleges plot to end voting by 12pm

The campaign team of Governor Ademola Adeleke has expressed serious concerns over reports of a potential scheme by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to manipulate the outcome of the Osun State gubernatorial election set for August 15, 2026. In a recent statement, the Imole Campaign Council's spokesperson, Pelumi Olajengbesi Esq., alleged that there is "credible intelligence" indicating that the APC intends to pressure the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) into prematurely closing polling stations by 12:00 noon in key areas supporting the governor.

The campaign council argues that this alleged plot aims to curb voter turnout in regions that traditionally back Adeleke. Olajengbesi noted that this is the latest in a series of unsuccessful attempts by the APC to undermine the governor's political prospects, which have included court injunctions, arbitrary arrests, and intimidation.

The council strongly urges INEC to remain impartial and adhere to its constitutional duties. They highlighted the importance of maintaining the integrity of Nigeria's electoral institutions and urged all stakeholders, including civil society organizations, independent election observers, international bodies, and the media, to remain vigilant and serve as guardians against such manipulative tactics.

As of now, the APC leadership in Osun State has not yet provided a formal response to these allegations. It is worth mentioning that INEC has traditionally stated that polling stations will remain open until all voters have completed their voting process, provided there are still individuals in line by the time the official closing time arrives.
