Water security is seventh guarantee, says Karnataka CM, promising Yettinahole water to Kolar and Chickballapur by 2027-end

Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar declared water security as the seventh guarantee for the people of the state on Monday, August 10, at a ceremony inaugurating development projects in Malur taluk of Kolar district. The CM promised to provide water from the Yettinahole project to the parched districts of Kolar and Chickballapur by the end of 2027.

While acknowledging the difficulty of the project, Shivakumar urged efforts to make it a reality, stating that nothing significant comes without effort. The Chief Minister also highlighted the progress made in filling 104 lakes in Kolar and Chickballapur through the K.C. Valley project and the ongoing work in the H.N. Valley project to fill another 65 lakes.

Additionally, plans are underway to fill more than 700 lakes with treated water to recharge groundwater and ensure water reaches farmers. The CM further commended the farmers of Kolar district for their resilience, describing them as a model for the state. Despite the groundwater level falling below 2,000 feet, they continued to produce milk, vegetables, silk, and flowers, supplying them to Bengaluru while demonstrating self-respect and determination.
