'The Odyssey' debuts atop weekend box office

Christopher Nolan's epic film, The Odyssey, has made its highly anticipated debut at the top of the weekend box office in South Korea, according to data released by the Korean Film Council on Monday. The long-awaited Hollywood blockbuster has surpassed the recent Spider-Man film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which had previously held the top spot. The film attracted 1,333,437 admissions over the weekend, bringing its total admissions to 1,874,731 as of Sunday, as reported by the Korean Film Council.

The Hollywood adventure follows the perilous journey of Odysseus (played by Matt Damon), the Greek king of Ithaca, after he wins the Trojan War. A star-studded cast, including Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Charlize Theron, and Zendaya, brings the story to life. Spider-Man: Brand New Day, on the other hand, drew 1,264,531 admissions over the weekend, resulting in a total of 5,911,933 admissions as of Sunday.

In third place was the animated South Korean film Heartsping Of Love 2: The Legend of the Whale Jewel, which garnered 289,451 admissions over the weekend. The alien epic Hope rounded out the top five with 100,889 admissions. As of 8:14 a.m. on Monday, The Odyssey accounted for an impressive 63.5 percent of ticket pres.
