'The Odyssey' debuts atop weekend box office

South Korean cinema welcomed Christopher Nolan's cinematic masterpiece, "The Odyssey," to its shores, claiming the top spot at the weekend box office. The epic film, which follows the odyssey of Greek hero Odysseus (Matt Damon), soared to the top, outpacing the latest Spider-Man installment, "Spider-Man: Brand New Day." According to data from the Korean Film Council, "The Odyssey" attracted 1,333,437 admissions over its opening weekend, resulting in a total of 1,874,731 admissions as of Sunday.

The film, released last Wednesday, boasts a star-studded cast, including Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Charlize Theron, and Zendaya. "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" occupied the second position, garnering 1,264,531 admissions during the weekend, and has amassed a total of 5,911,933 admissions to date. The Korean animated feature, "Heartsping Of Love 2: The Legend of the Whale Jewel," claimed the third spot, drawing 289,451 admissions.

As of Monday morning, "The Odyssey" commanded a commanding 63.5% share of ticket presales, indicating a robust start. "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" trailed at 21.2%, according to the Korean Film Council's weekend chart, which compiles ticket sales figures from Friday to Sunday.
