Tabung Haji RCI report to face Parliament scrutiny tomorrow

Tomorrow, the Dewan Rakyat will hold a special meeting to discuss and deliberate on the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) Report concerning the Tabung Haji (TH). The session, scheduled to begin at 10 AM, will be broadcast live on the Malaysian Parliament's YouTube platform and official media channels, with no breaks to ensure ample time for MPs to examine the report.

The one-day parliamentary session will commence with Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Dr. Zulkifli Hasan presenting an explanation on the RCI Report. Following his presentation, Members of Parliament will engage in a question and debate session, which is expected to conclude with Zulkifli Hasan and Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan.

The 211-page RCI report, published on July 29, revealed various governance weaknesses and operational issues of the TH from 2014 to 2020. Key findings include political interference in management and profit distribution, the application of incorrect financial reporting standards, and a critical financial position due to asset-liability deficits since 2014.

The report identified factors contributing to TH's financial crisis, including high grant payments, creative accounting, and the expansion of TH's role in the ummah's economy. The report also uncovered suspicious transactions, information concealment, and recommended a forensic audit, urging authorities to address police reports and complaints related to TH's management and operations from 2014 to 2020.

His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, has decreed that the investigation into the RCI Report should be carried out exhaustively to ensure appropriate actions are taken against responsible parties and to prevent recurrence of similar issues in the future.
