PN wants special Dewan sitting on Tabung Haji RCI report postponed

Perikatan Nasional has requested a postponement of the special Dewan Rakyat sitting set for tomorrow to discuss the royal commission of inquiry report on Tabung Haji. Takiyuddin Hassan, the opposition coalition’s chief whip, stated that the sitting should be held at a later date to allow Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to recuperate from recent surgery.

He emphasized that Anwar’s attendance is crucial, not just for accountability and transparency, but to provide a comprehensive explanation to the public. The Tabung Haji issue is of significant public interest and importance.

The report was declassified and released on July 29, four years after the commission completed its work in July 2022. It identified serious shortcomings in the Tabung Haji’s governance, investment, and financial management from 2014 to 2020, recommending a comprehensive overhaul. This overhaul includes stricter oversight, forensic audits of specific investments, and restrictions on political involvement within the institution.
