Former U.S. intelligence officials have warned that Donald Trump is following a playbook of a dictator. According to former CIA station chief in Russia, Paul Collichio, dictators share a common blueprint in their methods of wielding and abusing power. Collichio, who is a member of the 'Steady States' - a group of former national security and intelligence officials formed in 2016 - expressed concerns over Trump's use of classified information for political gain.

In a recent speech, Trump claimed that certain information was released by the Chinese government to influence the 2020 election. However, the National Intelligence Council concluded that China did not interfere in the election. Unlike previous presidents who have declassified information for policy purposes, Trump's motive appears to be solely personal political advantage.

Former CIA analyst Julia Kuril reveals that Trump is using the Central Intelligence Agency to reinforce his message and has done so more extensively than any other president in recent decades. The Trump administration has wielded the "classified access privilege" like a weapon to discredit government officials who criticize it. Emails from Hunter Biden's laptop, which suggested a potential Russian interference, led to the removal of classified access privileges from 50 former intelligence officials last year.

The Biden administration has also taken away the privileges of its key officials and critics. Mark Zaid, a national security attorney, claims that the scope of classified access privileges used by the Trump administration is the largest since the McCarthy era - "the safety nets have been completely removed." He states that the worst scenario is yet to come and is currently battling the Trump administration in legal proceedings after his classified access privileges were revoked.
