Pundits pour cold water on PBM’s West Malaysia plans with Ronnie Liu

Analysts have expressed skepticism about Parti Bangsa Malaysia's (PBM) plans to expand its reach into West Malaysia, despite former DAP strongman Ronnie Liu's involvement. Azmi Hassan of Akademi Nusantara stated that Liu's presence would not significantly impact the party, as PBM is more closely associated with Sarawak. James Chin of the University of Tasmania added that PBM is essentially a one-man show centered around its president, Larry Sng, and lacks the broader appeal needed to succeed in West Malaysia.

Azmi cited PBM's failed Sabah venture in the 2025 state election and Zuraida Kamaruddin's unsuccessful bid for Ampang parliamentary seat as evidence that the party continues to struggle in the diverse political landscape of the peninsula.
