Anwar files suit against PAS’ Tuan Ibrahim over claims of police intimidation, royal interference

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has initiated a defamation lawsuit against PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man. The allegations concern claims that Anwar abused his position to sway police investigations and meddle in royal affairs. The lawsuit was filed at the High Court through counsel SN Nair & Partners, stemming from remarks made by Tuan Ibrahim during a political rally on June 14 and subsequently disseminated online.

Anwar categorically denies these allegations, asserting that he never instructed or influenced the Royal Malaysia Police to pursue individuals merely for criticizing him or the government. Additionally, he denies any interference, either directly or indirectly, in the constitutional or traditional process for selecting the Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan.

The defamatory statements, including an 11-minute YouTube video, were widely circulated on Tuan Ibrahim's official social media platforms. Anwar claims the statements were published maliciously, causing significant harm to his reputation in his various political roles. He is seeking an injunction to prevent Tuan Ibrahim and his representatives from repeating the defamatory claims, as well as an order for the immediate removal of the online postings, along with general, aggravated, and exemplary damages.
