New Negeri Sembilan DAP chief Arul vows to rebuild trust while in opposition

Negeri Sembilan DAP chairman J Arul Kumar, 41, has vowed to rebuild public trust and reaffirm the party's roots in the community as he assumes leadership in opposition following the party's electoral loss in the August 1 state election. Arul succeeded Loke Siew Fook, who had led the state chapter for 22 years and stepped down after acknowledging the party's defeat, including the loss of two seats in Repah and Chennah.

The newly-appointed chairman emphasized the importance of demonstrating the party's ability to perform and fulfill its duties. Speaking to FMT, Arul stated that the party would immediately commence actions to rebuild confidence, starting with meetings with its 140 branches and assemblymen to discuss strengthening its presence and continuing to advocate for policies that benefit the public.

Arul, a former teacher and DAP representative for Nilai since 2013, highlighted the party's commitment to preserving the unity cultivated under Loke's leadership. He stressed that the party would move collectively and as one, while retaining the policies and projects that had benefited Negeri Sembilan. However, the DAP would also scrutinize the government and raise concerns where necessary, as an opposition party.

Furthermore, Arul expressed his willingness to cooperate with the state government, especially where their interests aligned, as friends and political opponents. He indicated that former DAP secretary-general Loke would meet with Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Ismail Lasim this week to discuss potential areas of cooperation for the people's benefit.
