Melaka election is change for PKR to rebuild, says Adam Adli

Melaka state election marks a new opportunity for PKR to rebuild its support base through a more thoughtful and policy-driven political strategy, according to Adam Adli Abd Halim, the acting chairman of the Melaka PKR Leadership Council. The party recognizes the significant challenge it faces in regaining public trust after a disappointing performance in the 2021 election, where it failed to win any seats.

Adli emphasized the need to demonstrate that PKR remains a viable option for representing the people in the Melaka State Legislative Assembly. In the 2021 poll, the Barisan Nasional (BN) party secured 21 out of 28 seats, Pakatan Harapan (PH) gathered five seats, and Perikatan Nasional (PN) claimed two. Notably, the Melaka State Executive Council (Exco) also included PH assemblymen, highlighting a unity government similar to the federal level.

Adli, who is also part of the PKR Central Leadership Council, noted that the PKR party in PH would approach the election with humility, aiming to earn the trust of the electorate by focusing on clear and relatable ideas and policies. He stressed the importance of addressing the concerns of all societal segments, particularly in areas such as affordability, youth development, education, housing, wage growth, and mental health.

PKR's approach is guided by the 'Justice for All' principle, which aims to ensure the party serves as an inclusive platform for every Melaka resident, regardless of their background. The current mandate of the Melaka state government concludes on December 31, and PKR is preparing for the 2026 National Congress, which will take place at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) in Ayer Keroh from August 13 to 16. Prime Minister and PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is set to attend the event on August 15.
