Brazilian player falls into tunnel celebrating goal

Jacy Maranhão, a Brazilian footballer representing Corbita, scored a goal and celebrated wildly with his team's fans. However, in the ensuing moments, he inadvertently plummeted into a dark tunnel. The Corbita defender had just extended his club's lead to 2-0 against Chapecoense in the first half of a Serie A match. Just as he regained his balance, the referee called a halt to the game.

Upon further review, the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) determined that Maranhão's goal was offside. Undeterred, Maranhão resumed playing in the second half but was later substituted due to injury.

This is not the first time a footballer has had a run-in with the tunnel at Estádio Major Antônio Couto Pereira. In 2014, Cameroonian forward Diedrick Joel Tagueu-Tadjo faced a similar situation. He jumped over the same advertising hoardings into the infamous Corbita tunnel, only to fall inside. Unlike Jacy, his goal was not disallowed, and he completed the game against São Paulo.

Journalist Leonardo Mendes Jr. noted a striking similarity between the two incidents, pointing out that the security guard who stopped Tagueu-Tadjo from jumping was the same individual who confronted Maranhão.
