Melaka election is change for PKR to rebuild, says Adam Adli

Melaka's upcoming state election is seen by the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) as an opportunity for the party to rebuild and adopt a more mature political approach based on clear communication of ideas and policies, according to Adam Adli Abd Halim, Acting Chairman of the Melaka PKR Leadership Council. This challenge comes after PKR failed to win any state seats in the 2021 Melaka state election.

Adam Adli emphasized that PKR must prove its acceptability and capability to produce representatives, calling for the party to move away from patronage politics towards a more mature style. The 2021 election saw Barisan Nasional form the government with 21 out of 28 seats, while Pakatan Harapan secured five and Perikatan Nasional two.

The Melaka State Executive Council also includes PH assemblymen, reflecting a Unity Government similar to the federal level. PKR's Melaka counterpart, PH, aims to enter the election with humility, seeking to establish itself as a coalition that remains close to the people and responsive to their needs. Both parties agree that the party's success should be measured by its ability to benefit the community through ideas, principles, and policies, rather than political dominance.

The Melaka state government's mandate ends on December 31, and the party's 2026 National Congress will focus on strengthening PKR ahead of the state election, with the event taking place in Melaka from August 13 to 16, with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim scheduled to officiate.
