Former Nonthaburi MP surrenders after shooting PAO chief and driver

Nonthaburi — On August 10, 2026, former Nonthaburi MP Chalong Riaowrang turned himself in to the police after allegedly shooting Nonthaburi Provincial Administrative Organisation (PAO) president Pol. Col. Thongchai Yenprasert and his driver. The incident occurred around 10:20 am at the Nonthaburi PAO office on Rattanathibet Road.

Initial reports suggest Chalong approached Thongchai's vehicle, knocked on the window, and then fired a gun at him. Thongchai was hit four times, including vital areas, and his driver was also injured by a bullet. Emergency responders from the Nonthaburi City Municipality performed CPR before transporting both victims to Phra Nang Klao Hospital.

Surveillance footage from the nearby Provincial Public Health Office showed Chalong carrying a firearm, placing it in his waistband, and walking away from the scene. Chalong was later captured on video calmly placing the gun in his waistband and leaving. A possible motive emerged when Chalong called media personality Anjalee "Jae Pong" Pairirak, who was hosting a program at the time.

According to Anjalee, Chalong claimed he shot Thongchai because he felt angry after receiving an 11 million baht demand, to which Thongchai allegedly refused to pay. He reportedly also mentioned a dispute over the selection of an MP candidate, stating that he had asked the other side not to field a certain candidate, but it was still proposed.

However, these claims about financial and political disputes have not been independently verified, and police have not yet confirmed a motive for the shooting. Nonthaburi Governor Chettha Mosikarat, along with his deputy, deputy commander of the Nonthaburi Provincial Police, and officers from Rattanathibet Police Station, arrived at the scene to investigate.

The police secured the area, began collecting evidence, and questioned witnesses. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
