Former Thai MP surrenders after allegedly shooting Nonthaburi council chief four times

Chalong Riewrang, a former MP for Nonthaburi, has surrendered to police after allegedly shooting Nonthaburi council chief Pol Col Thongchai Yenprasert four times outside the organization's headquarters in Muang district today. The shooting occurred at approximately 11:29am local time. According to Thai media reports, Chalong approached Thongchai's vehicle, knocked on the window, and opened fire when Thongchai lowered it to converse.

Thongchai and his driver sustained gunshot wounds, with both men receiving emergency treatment at Phra Nang Klao Hospital. The motive for the attack remains unclear, with reports suggesting a possible dispute over an 11-million-baht debt. Police are investigating the incident and gathering evidence. The shooting comes shortly after a mass shooting at a school in Nonthaburi, where a 14-year-old student killed six people before taking his own life.

Police have not established any connection between the two incidents, which occurred about seven miles apart in the province.
