Debsirin Nonthaburi School shooting suspect researched firearms for years

On Saturday, August 8, a 12-year-old girl died at Debsirin Nonthaburi School, raising the death toll from the shooting to nine. The gunman, a boy, had been researching firearms online for approximately two years before the incident. The school confirmed the girl's death on its official Facebook page. The deceased included five teachers, the boy's grandparents, and the suspect himself.

The boy suffered injuries during the shooting and later died en route to the hospital. Among the teachers killed was the school's deputy director. Fifteen people remained hospitalized with injuries, with six in critical condition. Police interviewed nearly 20 individuals, including the suspect's classmates and teachers. They seized the firearm, ammunition, the boy's mobile phone, and computer.

Investigators discovered the boy had searched for firearms online for about two years, with continued activity on social media platforms. The boy had previously brought a BB gun to school, which was confiscated by a teacher. Police believe several factors may have contributed to the incident, such as family problems, school difficulties, and problems with friends.

They also considered the influence of violent content on social media. However, a close friend of the suspect denied that the boy had been bullied at school. Police have not identified a single confirmed motive and are examining the circumstances surrounding the shooting and events leading up to it. They are also urging parents to monitor their children's behavior and online content, and to ensure firearms are kept away from minors. Police are implementing stricter security measures at the school before classes resume.
