Apam SHS to be upgraded from Category B to A school – Education Minister

The Education Minister of Ghana, Haruna Iddrisu, has revealed ambitious plans to elevate Apam Senior High School in the Central Region from a Category B status to a Category A institution. This upgrade is part of the government's ongoing initiatives to enhance the quality of secondary education and bolster infrastructure and learning conditions at select Senior High Schools nationwide.

At a commemorative event marking the school's 73rd anniversary, Mr. Iddrisu highlighted that the school will receive a suite of infrastructure and development improvements under the Transformative Secondary Education for Access, Results and Relevance for Jobs (STARR-J) project.

Under this initiative, the school will undergo significant infrastructure expansion and renovation works to enhance the learning environment. The Minister also pledged to address long-standing issues by completing abandoned GETFund projects at the school, which would provide the necessary facilities to support effective teaching and learning.

Additionally, the government plans to equip Apam Senior High School with a school bus, addressing transportation challenges faced by students. These multifaceted interventions are part of the broader government strategy to improve infrastructure in select Senior High Schools, increase access to secondary education, and furnish students with superior learning environments.

The STARR-J project aims to bolster secondary education infrastructure, thereby fostering better learning outcomes and creating more opportunities for Ghanaian youth. Mr. Iddrisu emphasized the government's unwavering commitment to equipping schools with the essential infrastructure, resources, and support needed to deliver quality education and adequately prepare Ghanaian students for future challenges.
