They subsequently traced the suspect to the Sanitizer informal settlement in Zone 30, where they discovered a 9mm firearm without a serial number and an additional eight rounds of ammunition.
The 24-year-old was subsequently arrested for possession of a prohibited firearm and illegal possession of ammunition. Further to the investigation, police searched an address in the Slovo informal settlement and apprehended a 41-year-old man. He was found in possession of mandrax tablets, ecstasy, and an undisclosed sum of cash.
Both individuals have been charged with firearm and drug-related offenses. They are scheduled to make their initial appearance in the Bishop Lavis Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, August 11, 2026.
