Police lodge report after fake statement linked to deputy IGP spreads on Facebook

On August 9, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) issued a statement refuting a viral social media post falsely associating the deputy Inspector-General of Police (IGP) with a press conference. The circulating content, shared through a Facebook account, depicted visuals and text indicating the deputy IGP had held an official press conference at Bukit Aman regarding a police operation.

However, PDRM categorically stated that the post was fabricated and misleading, emphasizing that the deputy IGP had never held such a press conference or issued any related statement.

The police clarified that the visual elements and identity markers in the post were designed to mislead viewers into believing it was an official position of the PDRM. Such deceptive practices not only confuse the public but also undermine the credibility of both the individual and the institution. In response, PDRM has lodged a report to facilitate a comprehensive investigation into the individuals responsible for creating and disseminating the post. The motive behind the circulation of such false content is under scrutiny.

PDRM strongly condemns any attempts to fabricate, manipulate, or spread false information by using the identity, image, or position of police officers to imply endorsement of an unauthorized statement or action. The public is urged not to believe or share unverified information, instead seeking confirmation through official PDRM channels and credible news sources.

The police also emphasize the importance of responsible social media behavior, urging individuals to refrain from spreading content that could cause public confusion or disrupt order.
