Police lodge report after fake statement linked to deputy IGP spreads on Facebook

The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has debunked a deceptive social media post claiming affiliation with the deputy Inspector-General of Police (IGP). The false statement, shared on Facebook, featured images and wording implying the deputy IGP had addressed a press conference regarding a police operation at Bukit Aman. The force, as conveyed by DCP Datuk Mohamad Noor Yusof Ali, the secretary of the Royal Malaysia Police, emphatically stated that the post is fabricated and the deputy IGP never delivered such a press conference or issued any related statement.

The misleading visuals and identity markers employed in the post aimed to create an illusion of official endorsement from the PDRM. This type of activity risks public confusion, misunderstanding, and undermines the credibility of both the individual and the institution. Police have filed a report to facilitate a comprehensive investigation into the individuals responsible for creating and disseminating the post, including probing the intentions behind its circulation.

The PDRM views with seriousness any attempt to fabricate, manipulate, or spread false information using the identity, image, or position of police officers to suggest that a statement or action is official. The public is advised not to believe or share unverified information and to verify sources through official PDRM channels and credible news outlets.

PDRM also urges society to practice responsible social media usage and refrain from spreading content that may cause confusion or disrupt public order.
