Police cite multiple factors in deadly school shooting

Investigators have determined that the deadly school shooting at Debsirin Nonthaburi School resulted from a combination of factors, including family problems, academic pressure, conflicts with friends and exposure to violent online content, according to Pol Maj Gen Atthapol Anusit, deputy commissioner of Provincial Police Region 1.

The investigation, focused on identifying the underlying causes of the attack, revealed that the 14-year-old suspect's parents had separated when he was very young, and he had been raised by his grandparents. Tragically, the grandparents were among the first victims of the shooting. Police are also examining issues related to school life, friendships, and possible bullying or conflicts with teachers, though no conclusions have been reached.

The suspect's online activities, including viewing violent content and developing an interest in guns over the past year or two, were documented on his old mobile phone and computer. He had purchased a BB gun online and brought it to school, where it was confiscated, and he had also brought a knife to school in his bag. Reports of him writing about or producing drawings featuring firearms have not been verified.

The suspect's actions were divided into four stages: arriving at school and fatally shooting a teacher, attacking classrooms on the sixth and fifth floors, moving to the fifth floor and shooting multiple teachers and students before the gun jammed, and finally moving through the third, second and first floors, shooting at groups of teachers and students before attempting suicide at 10.10am.

The suspect's parents have since given additional statements to investigators, with his father expressing sorrow and confusion over his son's actions.
