Perlis Umno gears up to contest all seats solo at next election

Arau, on August 9th, saw Perlis Umno gearing up to contest all 15 state seats and three parliamentary constituencies in the next election, according to state liaison chairman Datuk Rozabil Abd Rahman. Berita Harian reported that Rozabil stated there had been no formal discussions with any political party, including Perikatan Nasional (PN), regarding electoral cooperation in Perlis.

He emphasized that party members' desire and their ongoing efforts were focused on securing all 18 seats, as Perlis Umno had failed to win any seats at the previous election. Rozabil noted that the state chapter would defer any final decisions on electoral cooperation to the party’s national leadership. While some parties had approached him about meetings, Rozabil deemed such discussions premature, stating that the party’s machinery needed to remain active.

He also alleged that the PN state administration had failed to provide sufficient development, especially in terms of economic opportunities and employment prospects for the youth. Rozabil reported that Perlis Umno’s machinery, including Wanita Umno’s Jalinan Rakyat network in polling districts, was being prepared for a potential election at any given moment.
