Perlis Umno ready to go solo in next election

Perlis Umno is set to contest the upcoming election independently across all 15 state seats and three parliamentary constituencies within the state. Perlis Umno's liaison committee chairman, Datuk Rozabil Abd Rahman, disclosed that no formal discussions have taken place with any political party, including Perikatan Nasional (PN), at the state level.

This decision comes in the wake of Umno's lack of success in securing any seats during the previous election, prompting the party to shift its focus towards strengthening its presence and groundwork in each constituency. Rozabil emphasized that Perlis Umno's approach is centered around mobilizing its members for active involvement in all polling districts.

Although some parties have reached out to discuss potential alliances, Rozabil expressed that it is premature to engage in such collaborations at this juncture. Instead, the party is prioritizing the establishment of its infrastructure and organizational capabilities. Rozabil remains optimistic about Perlis Umno's prospects, citing a shift in public sentiment and dissatisfaction with the current PN government's performance.

He pointed out the PN administration's failure to deliver substantial economic opportunities and job creation, particularly for the youth. In contrast, Perlis Umno's preparations suggest a readiness to contest the election on their own terms, acknowledging that the previous Barisan Nasional (BN) administration had its shortcomings.

Rozabil highlighted the mobilization of Umno's machinery, including the women's wing Jalinan Rakyat, as a testament to the party's determination to succeed independently.
