Iran sets conditions for reopening Strait of Hormuz

Iran is demanding specific conditions before opening the Strait of Hormuz, including compensation for war damages and an end to aggression against Iran and its allies in several regions, complicating efforts to reopen the vital waterway. Iranian officials have laid out a long list of demands, including lifting the US naval blockade, ending sanctions, releasing frozen assets, and compensating for wartime damage.

Despite these demands, talks with Oman over the strait's transit and management are reportedly nearing a conclusion, though the reopening is contingent on Iran's conditions. The US and Israel have imposed a blockade on the strait since late February following strikes on Iran, while Iran has accused ships attempting to bypass this route of aggression.

Recent attacks on tankers have led to the collapse of an April ceasefire, with both sides urged to return to terms from a June memorandum.
