Rybakina advances while Andreeva exits at Toronto

Elena Rybakina, the current world number two and the 2022 Wimbledon champion, advanced to the fourth round of the WTA Toronto Masters on Friday, defeating American Ann Li 6-2, 7-5. Rybakina secured five of six break points and saved two of four during the match. She will face Russia's Liudmila Samsonova next, who won 7-5, 6-7 (3/7), 6-2.

Canadian Leylah Fernandez, the 30th seed, eliminated fifth-ranked Russian Alina Andreeva 6-1, 6-4 in 80 minutes, ending a seven-match losing streak against top-10 opponents. Fernandez dominated the points, winning 24 of 27 on her first serve and 17 of 23 on Andreeva's second serves. She will next face four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka.

US fourth seed Coco Gauff, a two-time Grand Slam winner, reached the last 16 by defeating Greece's Maria Sakkari 6-1, 6-4. Gauff will face Russian Alina Korneeva, who beat American Iva Jovic 6-3, 6-4. Alexandra Eala, the 21-year-old Filipino left-hander, also advanced to the fourth round after defeating American Caty McNally 6-3, 5-7, 6-4. Eala will face Swiss 12th seed Belinda Bencic.
