Venable’s gaffe keys 8-2 Chisox setback

A significant error by White Sox manager Will Venable led to a crucial setback in their recent 8-2 loss to the Cleveland Guardians. In the 23rd pitch of Friday's game, Venable inexplicably removed starting pitcher Noah Schultz from the mound, a move that left the bullpen scrambling and ultimately contributed to the team's poor performance.

Just moments after pitcher Zach Bove introduced Schultz to the game after he faced Jo Adell with a pitch, Venable took him out after Schultz allowed Angel Martínez a two-run single. This decision resulted in David Sandlin being called into the game to relieve Schultz, as no other relievers were available. This unfortunate gaffe proved disastrous when Martínez took advantage of the situation, driving in six runs and single-handedly clinching the victory for the Guardians.

The loss was particularly damaging given the bullpen's already strained state, as seven of the team's eight relievers had already been utilized during the game. While Venable's mistake cannot be entirely blamed on him, the overall performance of the team highlights the team's struggles as they head into the latter part of the season.
