Orange alert for 11 districts in Kerala on July 31

The southwest monsoon is set to continue for an additional two days, with a deep depression over west-central Chhattisgarh and adjoining areas potentially weakening into a depression within the next 12 hours, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Kerala is expected to experience intense rainfall spells due to the system, along with an offshore trough running from south Gujarat to north Kerala. Strong westerlies and northwesterlies are currently affecting the region.

The IMD has issued an orange alert for 11 districts in Kerala on Friday, July 31, 2026, except for Thrissur, Palakkad, and Malappuram, which have been designated with a yellow alert. Isolated heavy rains are anticipated in these areas. Additionally, an orange alert has been issued for nine districts on Saturday, while a yellow alert is in effect for the remaining five districts, including Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Kannur, and Kasaragod.
