NPP constituency primaries: Annulment of initial election was unnecessary, but party decision must stand – Bantama MP

Francis Asenso-Boakye, the Member of Parliament for Bantama Constituency, has voiced his dissatisfaction with the New Patriotic Party's decision to annul the initial constituency executive elections held on July 11, 2026. At the re-run election held at the Kumasi Cultural Centre, the MP cast his vote and expressed his disappointment over the annulment.

He noted that the first election had been conducted peacefully and transparently, leaving him unconvinced about the need for a re-run. Despite his reservations, Asenso-Boakye supports the party's decision to re-conduct the election, as it is their directive. He acknowledged the fair and orderly process during the re-run, observing that delegates were voting without interference at all three voting centers.

The MP emphasized the importance of party unity in supporting the party's flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, in the 2028 general elections. With 1,258 delegates expected to vote, the re-run is being supervised by Electoral Commission officials and secured by Ghana Police Service personnel to ensure a smooth and lawful process.
