NPP re-run Bantema Constituency election under tight security after annulment of initial poll

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Bantema Constituency is conducting a re-run election for executive positions at the Kumasi Cultural Centre, under strict security measures. This follow-up poll was initiated after the National Steering Committee annulled the initial election on July 11, 2026, citing violations of party directives, election rules, and court orders.

Despite the committee's ruling, the Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, remains in office based on the results of the initial election. The re-run process, supervised by Electoral Commission officials, involves 1,258 delegates across three voting centers to ensure a smooth electoral procedure. Security personnel from the Ghana Police Service are present to uphold order and deter any potential unrest.

The re-election will determine new leaders for the party's activities in the constituency ahead of the 2028 general elections. The critical contest is for the position of Chairman, currently held by Fiifi Mensah, who won the last election with 714 votes, accounting for 72.8% of the 995 valid votes cast, compared to Kingsley Atta's 267 votes, representing 27.2%.
