Singapore platform completes smallest artificial heart implant

Singapore's HeartSpan.ai platform successfully completed the world's smallest and lightest left ventricular assist device (LVAD) implantation at Indonesia's RSCM National Central General Hospital. The milestone marks the country's first successful LVAD implantation and Southeast Asia's first use of the device. The initiative is part of HeartSpan.ai's broader effort to build a regional model for advanced heart failure therapies by combining MedTech with cross-border specialist expertise, clinical training, medical knowledge-sharing cloud, and AI support.

The procedure was performed by Dr. Wei Siang Yu's team at RSCM with the help of Fuwai Hospital specialists and intensive training in Beijing. The recipient, a 45-year-old woman with advanced heart failure, showed encouraging early clinical outcomes, including stabilization of her condition and the beginning of rehabilitation. The successful implantation demonstrates Indonesia's capacity to provide advanced cardiovascular therapies through collaboration with global partners, strengthening healthcare professionals' competencies and leveraging the latest technologies.
