Nurul Izzah to take break as PKR deputy president

Pulai Pauh MP Nurul Izzah Anwar announced a brief hiatus from her role as PKR deputy president following the party’s upcoming congress. The information chief of PKR, Fahmi Fadzil, disclosed that Nurul Izzah herself had expressed a desire to resign from the position, yet the party’s central leadership opted to grant her a temporary leave instead.

Nurul Izzah will preside over the Wanita PKR and PKR Youth congress on August 14th, as per Fahmi’s announcement. In her absence, PKR vice-president Saifuddin Nasution Ismail will assume the duties of deputy president, while Amirudin Shari will fully undertake the role of election director. Previously, Amirudin and Saifuddin shared the responsibilities of co-election directors.

Previously elected as PKR deputy president in May last year, Nurul Izzah defeated her predecessor Rafizi Ramli, who subsequently left PKR along with former vice-president Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad to establish their new political party, Bersama. The decision to permit Nurul Izzah to take a brief break from her position occurred two months after Amirudin replaced her as co-election director with Saifuddin.
