Nurul Izzah cuti sementara tugas timbalan presiden PKR

PETALING JAYA: Former Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah Anwar will take a sabbatical while serving as the PKR's acting president, following the party's national congress next week, it has been announced. PKR spokesperson Fahmi Fadzil revealed that Nurul Izzah had originally requested to resign entirely, but the party's Central Management Committee (MPP) decided to allow her a brief respite from her duties.

"Nurul Izzah will hold the PKR Women and Youth Congress on August 14," he stated in a statement. He also announced that PKR Vice President Saifuddin Nasution Ismail would take over the acting presidential duties temporarily. Meanwhile, Amirudin Shari, another PKR Vice President, will fully assume the responsibility of the PKR election chief, a role previously held jointly by Saifuddin.

Nurul Izzah was chosen as the PKR vice president in May last year, defeating her challenger Rafizi Ramli. Rafizi subsequently left the party with former vice president Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad to launch Bersatu. The decision to grant Nurul Izzah a break was made two months after Amirudin took over as election chief alongside Saifuddin.
