CDF Munir discusses enhancement of defence, security cooperation with Somalia: ISPR

Field Marshal Asim Munir, the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of the Army Staff, engaged in discussions with Somalia's Defence Minister Ahmed Moallim Fiqi in a meeting at Pakistan's General Headquarters in Rawalpindi, according to ISPR. The meeting aimed at enhancing bilateral defence and security cooperation between the two nations.

Pakistan's Defence Minister reiterated the country's dedication to helping Somalia strengthen its security forces and establish lasting peace in the region. The meeting addressed matters of mutual interest, regional security trends, and strategies to amplify bilateral defence and security cooperation. Both parties emphasized the significance of bolstering military-to-military ties and capacity-building efforts to address shared security concerns.

The Somali delegation expressed gratitude for Pakistan's unwavering support and the dedicated performance of the Pakistan Armed Forces in fostering regional peace and stability. On the prior day, the naval and air force chiefs met with their Somali counterparts to reaffirm Pakistan's commitment to strengthening defense ties and supporting institutional cooperation.

The naval chief, Admiral Naveed Ashraf, highlighted the importance of enhancing bilateral defense collaboration and maritime security. Additionally, discussions on bilateral defense cooperation, professional collaboration, and capacity building took place between the air force chiefs and their Somali counterparts. In January, Pakistan and Somalia agreed to enhance cooperation in training, border management, disaster management, and combating terrorism through a joint strategy.

The arrangement was solidified following a high-level meeting between Pakistan's Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Somalia's Interior Minister Ali Yusuf at the Ministry of Interior.
