Williams sisters set to play Cincinnati Open doubles

Serena and Venus Williams have been granted wildcard entries for the women's doubles at the upcoming Cincinnati Open tennis tournament. The iconic siblings were originally slated to compete together at Wimbledon in July, but Serena withdrew due to a knee injury sustained during her singles comeback match against Australia's Maya Joint. This marks the first time Venus and Serena have teamed up for doubles since their victory at the 2022 US Open.

The women's doubles event is scheduled to take place from August 11-23 in Ohio, and the Williams sisters' participation could potentially pave the way for Serena to return to the US Open this year. Injuries have plagued Serena's career, with her third-round loss at the 2019 US Open remaining her last Grand Slam appearance until this summer's Wimbledon tournament.

Serena's current tally of 23 Grand Slam singles titles places her one shy of the all-time record, which is jointly held by Margaret Court and Novak Djokovic. Together, the Williams sisters have claimed 14 major titles and three Olympic gold medals in doubles play. Venus, currently 46 years old, has also earned a wildcard entry into the singles draw for the Cincinnati Open tournament.
