The Perfect Lie, a new K-drama available on Disney+, follows the story of a heart surgeon and a school librarian who become embroiled in a police investigation after a night of conflicting accounts. The drama, set to release two episodes per week until December 5, delves into the theme of trust and the complexities of deception. To accurately portray the lead character, South Korean actor Yoo Yeon-seok studied real-life lie detector interviews.
Yoo, who plays the single father surgeon Joon-ho, revealed that this role marked a departure from his usual character types. He explained that Joon-ho's enigmatic nature made him question the character's moral alignment, stating that portraying such a character was a significant acting challenge.
Seo Hyun-jin, who portrays librarian and teacher Sun-woo, worked closely with director Jo Young-min to develop Sun-woo's emotional journey throughout the series. She noted that this role was a new experience for her, as she had not previously portrayed a character with such depth and complexity.
The Perfect Lie marks the reunion of Yoo and Seo since their popular collaboration in the medical drama Dr Romantic, a decade ago. The on-screen chemistry between the two actors had garnered a significant fan following who were eager to see them collaborate again. Seo mentioned that the dynamics between the characters in The Perfect Lie would differ from their previous partnership, creating a fresh perspective for the audience.
Yoo expressed his excitement about the reunion, stating that their on-screen tension in this drama would differ from their earlier work. He also hinted at the possibility of returning to their Dr Romantic characters or exploring new projects with Seo in the future. Seo echoed his sentiment, emphasizing their willingness to work together on any type of character due to the enjoyable experience they had in Dr Romantic.
