U.S. First Lady Melania Trump is set to host Ukrainian and Russian officials at the White House on Thursday. This comes ahead of peace talks in Abu Dhabi, with the goal of ending the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The talks have reignited hopes for a peaceful resolution, despite Moscow's ongoing invasion now in its fifth year. A recent thaw in relations between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin has raised questions about whether the United States might distance itself from Ukraine.
Russian adviser for international economic cooperation, Kirill Dmitriev, and human rights ombudsman Yana Lantratova are expected to meet Melania Trump on Thursday, as confirmed by a Kremlin spokesman. Ukraine's human rights ombudsman, Dmytro Lubinets, will also join the meeting. Lubinets expressed his intention to convey a crucial message to the First Lady while he is in Washington.
