The White House will be hosting officials from Moscow and Kyiv on Thursday, in advance of peace talks in Abu Dhabi. These discussions have sparked renewed optimism for resolving the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, which has now entered its fifth year of Moscow's full-scale invasion. A recent thaw in relations between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin has fueled speculation that Washington may abandon its support for Kyiv.
Kirill Dmitriev, Moscow's adviser for international economic cooperation, and Yana Lantratova, the country's human rights ombudsman, are set to meet with Melania Trump on Thursday, according to Russia's state news agency TASS, which cited Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov. Ukraine's human rights ombudsman, Dmytro Lubinets, also confirmed he will be meeting with the First Lady in Washington.
