KC Luxury seeks judge’s recusal over court record dispute

Afolabi Kazeem, also known as KC Luxury, a businessman and social media influencer, is facing charges of cocaine trafficking and money laundering in a Federal High Court in Lagos. Kazeem has requested that Justice Musa Kakaki recuse himself from the case due to alleged irregularities in court records and concerns over his health.

The judge denied Kazeem's bail application last Wednesday, stating that he had not provided sufficient evidence to justify his release. During a recent hearing, Kazeem's counsel, Emefo Etudo, argued that the court records did not reflect the October 28, 2026 ruling on his client's bail application, and that a reply affidavit filed by the defense had gone missing.

Etudo also expressed concerns over the lack of adequate recording facilities in the court. The prosecution, led by Ibrahim Abu, argued that allegations of judicial bias were serious and that the trial had not commenced. They also opposed the suggestion to sever the charges, stating that the first count alleged a conspiracy involving the defendants.

The second and third defendants in the case, Augustine Audu and Kazeem, respectively, have been urged to proceed with their trials separately.
