GPCL introduces security features on gazettes to curb fake publications

The Ghana Publishing Company Limited (GPCL) has taken significant steps to mitigate the circulation of counterfeit publications and reduce financial losses. Managing Director Nana Kwasi Boatey disclosed that the procurement of fake gazettes through intermediaries, known as 'Goro Boys,' has been a major contributing factor to the company's financial challenges. He revealed that some individuals in the general public have obtained gazette publications through unauthorized middlemen, leading to revenue losses for GPCL.

In response to this issue, GPCL has implemented enhanced security features on its newly issued gazettes and launched a nationwide public education campaign called Gazette360. The purpose of this campaign is to inform applicants about the proper channels for accessing the service to minimize unauthorized distribution.

During a meeting at the Government Accountability Series at Jubilee House on November 2, Mr Boatey also announced that GPCL has entered into an agreement with Consolidated Bank Ghana (CBG). This arrangement involves CBG directly collecting and banking all sales proceeds at GPCL's business center. By handling financial transactions through the banking system, Mr Boatey stated that the company aims to ensure that all revenue generated is paid directly into its bank accounts.

Simultaneously, expenditure will also be managed through this banking system, thereby strengthening financial oversight and control.
