Germany and Ukraine test armed ground robot for frontline deployment

Remote-controlled and heading for the front lines. ARX Robotics and the Ukrainian company ROBONEERS report completion of the first major system tests.

German defence company ARX Robotics and Ukrainian firm ROBONEERS have jointly tested an armed ground robot, GEREON, for deployment by Ukrainian forces. The collaboration was formalised during German Chancellor Friedrich Merz's visit to Ukraine, attended by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The GEREON robot, equipped with the SABER weapons module, can be remotely operated to provide fire support for attack and defence. It can also serve in non-combat roles such as transport, evacuation, electronic warfare, reconnaissance, and countering drones. UNARMED versions are already in use across Ukraine for a variety of tasks.

The goal is to create a versatile robotic system that can rapidly adapt to different battlefield missions. ARX claims GEREON is part of the largest fleet of Western-built unmanned ground vehicles currently active in Ukraine.

With over 15,000 frontline missions under its belt since 2014, ROBONEERS has proven the reliability of its robotic systems. The two companies have also formed a joint venture to mass-produce the Rys Pro unmanned ground vehicle in Germany and Ukraine, targeting a production run exceeding 1,000 units within the first year.

Meanwhile, German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius is set to visit defence technology firm Helsing in Munich to discuss AI capabilities for military applications, alongside meetings with Helsing's management, employees, and staff. Helsing, established in 2021, is rapidly emerging as a key player in European defence technology.

Google Adopts DPoP to Strengthen OAuth 2.0 Against Token Theft and Replay Attacks

Google's OAuth Platform has recently introduces support for Demonstrating Proof-of-Possession (DPoP), an OAuth 2.0 security mechanism designed to mitigate token theft and replay attacks.

  • Google adds DPoP to OAuth 2.0 to prevent token theft and replay attacks.
  • DPoP binds refresh tokens to client's asymmetric key pair, ineffective without private key.
  • Google develops DBSC to secure web app session cookies by linking to user's hardware.
