Confusion is growing in Gombe State after the name of former Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo surfaced on the All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council list. The leader of the state's Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dankwambo, is also running for the Gombe North Senatorial seat under the PDP in the 2027 general elections.
The campaign council list, published on Monday, has sparked confusion among PDP supporters as it lists Dankwambo as part of the APC's advisory and campaign council. However, the state PDP chapter has officially distanced itself from the APC's advisory and campaign council list, stating that Dankwambo is unaware of the development.
The 666-member campaign council, led by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, includes prominent APC figures such as Senator Muhammad Danjuma Goje, Senator Usman Bayero Nafada, and Senator Sa’idu Ahmed Alkali. Dankwambo's name is listed at number seven on the 666-member campaign council and number six on the 66-member advisory council.
This development has generated intense reactions, with many questioning whether Dankwambo has defected to the APC or is aligning with the ruling party ahead of the 2027 elections.
