iPhone Duo owners report cracks in Apple’s first foldable handset

Owners of Apple's new foldable iPhone, known as the iPhone Duo, are reporting cracks in the device's screen. Apple confirmed an issue with a "small number" of units after posts appeared on Reddit and social media. Reports of screen cracks have emerged since the handset went on general sale globally on Friday. Apple's experts said there were too few examples to determine if the problem was more serious.

The foldable iPhone Duo retails from $1,999 (£1,499). One user in Australia reported that their Duo had cracked within six hours of ownership and posted the experience on Reddit. Another user in Australia heard "almost a cracking noise" that resulted in a similar screen malfunction. Apple believes the affected units are showing defects quickly after use and has received an "incredibly positive" response from early users.

The company stated that demand for the iPhone Duo has been "nothing short of extraordinary" as it is the most high-profile product launch under its new CEO, John Ternus. Experts noted that there have been similar issues in the past, such as with Samsung's Galaxy Fold in 2019, but Apple's swift response of replacing affected units is seen as a positive approach.
