Mumbai Indians promote Pollard to head coach, replacing Jayawardene

Mumbai Indians have announced Kieron Pollard as their new head coach for the 2027 season, replacing Mahela Jayawardene. Pollard, who played a pivotal role in the West Indies' victory in the 2012 T20 World Cup and secured five IPL titles with the Mumbai Indians from 2013 to 2020, served as the team's batting coach under Jayawardene until the latter's departure.

The Mumbai Indians, one of the most successful teams in IPL history with five titles, have faced difficulties since their last triumph, failing to make the playoffs in four out of the past six seasons. Pollard, 39, expressed his excitement about taking on the role, stating, "Having experienced this journey as a player and then as a coach, I understand what Mumbai Indians stands for and the responsibility that comes with representing the Blue and Gold."

He further added, "I look forward to working closely with the players and support staff, building on the team’s legacy, helping our talent grow and giving the (fans) many more reasons to celebrate."
