Mumbai Indians promote Pollard to head coach, replacing Jayawardene
On October 24, the Mumbai Indians announced the appointment of Kieron Pollard as their new head coach for the 2027 season, replacing Mahela Jayawardene. Pollard, a key figure in the team's history, had previously served as the batting coach under Jayawardene from 2013 to 2020. Over his career, he played a pivotal role in the West Indies' victory in the 2012 T20 World Cup and claimed five IPL titles with the Mumbai Indians.
Despite being one of the most successful teams in IPL history, boasting five titles, the franchise has faced a decline in recent times, failing to make it to the playoffs in four of the last six seasons. In a statement, 39-year-old Pollard expressed his understanding of the club's ethos and the weight of responsibility that comes with the role.
He stated his eagerness to collaborate with the players and coaching staff, aiming to build upon the team's legacy, foster the growth of talent, and provide more reasons for fans to celebrate.
