In a diplomatic effort to bring peace to Ukraine, US negotiator Steve Witkoff has arrived in Russia to meet with Russian leadership, according to Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre. The talks are expected to cover proposals developed by European and American colleagues, as well as discuss security guarantees for Ukraine, territorial issues, sanctions, and post-war European security.
President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed willingness to negotiate, emphasizing that they were not losing the war but were losing lives and time. The peace talks come as US President Donald Trump pushes for a dialogue with Moscow, despite growing pressure on Ukraine. Trump has previously criticized Zelensky for not providing "real help" in the peace efforts and suggested a potential meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping to discuss nuclear weapons and nuclear disarmament.
