Ukraine war: New hope for Kyiv? US negotiator travels to Russia
Ukraine and the US are talking to each other again, even though Trump previously denied Kiev the will to make peace. After a meeting with Zelenskiy in Oslo, US negotiator Witkoff is traveling to Russia.
US envoy Steve Witkoff will travel to Russia to discuss proposals for peace in Ukraine, following a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Selenskyj in Oslo. The talks, which also involved Finnish President Alexander Stubb and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, aimed to revive stalled diplomatic efforts. Selenskyj said Ukraine is ready for negotiations, but emphasized that his country must be part of any talks about its future.
US President Donald Trump has suggested a possible meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping to discuss nuclear disarmament. Meanwhile, Russian airstrikes on Ukraine continued, killing at least nine civilians.
