Mbappe double helps Real Madrid sweep aside Sevilla ahead of El Clasico

Kylian Mbappe netted two goals as Real Madrid dismantled Sevilla 4-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu, narrowing the gap with La Liga leaders Barcelona to six points ahead of their upcoming clash. Following their three-game winning streak in all competitions post-international break, Real Madrid now sit third with 21 points, one behind Atletico Madrid, while Sevilla remain sixth on 14.

Elsewhere, Osasuna secured a 2-0 victory over Racing Santander in the return match of their manager, Jagoba Arrasate. Celta Vigo held off Alaves for a 2-1 win, while Real Sociedad triumphed 5-2 against Malaga. Despite the suspension of Vinicius Jr, Real Madrid showcased fluid attacking football, largely due to Arda Guler's leadership.

Despite a red card appeal from Sevilla, Guler equalized swiftly with a shot into the top corner. Mbappe then scored in the 37th minute, brilliantly turning to beat the goalkeeper. Just before halftime, Fede Valverde blocked a potential comeback attempt. Diomande capitalized on Real Madrid's more attacking approach to score the third goal.

Mbappe secured the fourth before half-time after being fouled, converting a penalty. Manu Bueno pulled one back for Sevilla with 10 minutes left, but Diomande restored Real's three-goal advantage in the second half. Eder Militao made a dramatic return to the squad, making his first appearance since recovering from hamstring surgery in April.

Mourinho can take heart from a comprehensive display from Real Madrid as they gear up for their crucial El Clasico showdown with Barcelona next Sunday.
