What Ten Site Icon Generator Results Actually Produced From One PNG

A site icon generator is useful only when its downloaded files match the formats and sizes your site needs. In a one-image test across ten result pages, three produced the complete package I checked for: an ICO file, an Apple touch PNG, and a web app manifest. Several other flows did not produce an inspectable result, and one download labeled as an ICO was actually a JPEG. How the test was run I…

Ten site icon generator result pages were tested using a single transparent 512 × 512 PNG input. The goal was to verify if the downloadable files matched the required formats and sizes for a website. Of the ten results, three successfully produced the complete package of an ICO file, an Apple touch PNG, and a web app manifest. Four other attempts did not yield an inspectable result, while one file labeled as an ICO turned out to be a JPEG. The testing was conducted on Windows 11 Pro with Chrome 155.0.8059.84 on October 18, 2026.

The tested PNG had a transparent corner pixel (alpha 0) and a fully opaque center pixel (alpha 255). Each page followed its default workflow without any sign-in required. Downloaded files were inspected locally when available.

favicon.io delivered a seven-file ZIP containing a three-layer ICO (16, 32, and 48 px), PNGs at multiple sizes, and a manifest. Logomakerr.ai produced the same seven-file ZIP with matching PNG dimensions and ICO layer sizes. favicon-generator.org resulted in a 27-file ZIP containing 24 PNG files, one ICO with a single 16 × 16 layer, and manifest.json and browserconfig.xml files.

Shift4Shop provided a 1,507-byte download labeled .ico, but it was a JPEG file with an opaque black color in the corner. favicon.cc did not produce any inspectable output due to a Chrome download error. RealFaviconGenerator and IONOS also failed to generate an output file, with the latter receiving an "Unsupported file format" message.

Canva, Magnific, and LogoAI did not perform the PNG-to-icon conversion as part of their default flows.
