LAHORE: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and PML-N President Nawaz Sharif defended the imposition of emergency and governor's rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Saturday, citing security concerns. Shehbaz Sharif stated that the federal government had "no other option" but to take the step, while Nawaz Sharif argued that it should have been done earlier as the law and order situation deteriorated under the PTI government.
The Centre imposed the emergency and governor's rule in KP on October 11, alleging the provincial government's "deliberate disengagement" from the fight against terrorism. The decision was endorsed by parliament following opposition protests.
