On Saturday night, gunmen attacked the chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Langai Ward of Plateau State's Mangu Local Government Area. Alhaji Yakubu, the MACBAN leader, survived the ambush with severe injuries and was immediately taken to a hospital for medical care. The attack has occurred during a period of heightened tension in Mangu and other regions of Plateau State, where several individuals have been killed in recent weeks.
Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, the Plateau State Chairman of MACBAN, confirmed the incident, stating that the association is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack and those responsible. "The incident has been reported. We are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident," Babayo stated. The shooting has sparked fresh concerns over security in Mangu, a region plagued by recurring violence, cattle rustling, destruction of farmlands, and retaliatory attacks due to tensions between farming and herding communities. The Plateau State Police Command has yet to respond to inquiries regarding the incident.
